Physiology of erection

The 2 chambers of penis (corpora cavernosa,) which run throught the organ are stuffed with spongy tissue. The corpora cavernosa are surrounded by a membrane, referred to as the tunica albuginea. The spongy tissue comprises clean muscle tissues, fibrous tissues, areas, veins, and arteries. The urethra, which is the channel for urine and semen runs alongside underside of the corpora cavernosa.

On account of sensory or psychological stimulation, or each, the erection begins. On account of impulses from mind and native nerves the muscle tissues of corpora cavernosa loosen up and permit blood to circulation in and fill the areas of spongy tissue.

The circulation of blood creates stress within the corpora cavernosa, making the penis increase. The tunica albuginea helps entice the blood within the chambers, thereby sustaining erection. When muscle tissues within the penis contract to cease the influx of blood and open outflow channels, erection recedes.

The “apaanavayu” one of many 5 forms of vayu is situated within the testicles, urinary bladder, phallus, umbilicus, thighs, groin, anus and colon. Its features are ejaculation of semen, voiding of urine and stools.

Shushruta explains the method of erection and ejaculation as When a person has want (iccha) to have intercourse, his response to the touch will increase (Vayu situated in pores and skin causes circulation of alerts from pores and skin to mind, thus inflicting sensation of contact). This causes arousal or “harsha”. Arousal or Harsha intensifies actions of vayu and at this second extremely energetic vayu liberates the teja or warmth of pitta. Thus tejas and vayu improve physique temperature, coronary heart beat and blood circulation inflicting erection.
